Becky Lott Rao

Born in Texas, Becky grew up in the farming and ranching community of Pinehurst, 40 miles northwest of Houston. Much later, she and her husband re-located in the Milwaukee area and have stayed for 30 years.

Receiving her first show dog at age 7, a Beagle named Lott’s Ricky (Judd), Becky showed him for several years in 4H dog shows. She earned her first Appaloosa by saving her baby-sitting money. On her 13th birthday, Drum’s Greenback, a CPO bay filly out of Hawk’s Domino War Drum (ApHC) x Greenback Dollar, TB was the result of that hard work. Affectionately nicknamed “Sister Girl”, Becky and her mare participated in local open shows and 4H events and road trails with her friends.

Becky holds degrees from Sam Houston State University and the University of Oklahoma. Her professional career included Administrative Assistant positions at the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 1985, Becky left academia to work in her husband’s computer business, Computer Bay, where she rose through the ranks from Inventory Manager to Senior Vice President. It was during her tenure at Computer Bay that Becky became involved again in dog showing and horseback riding.

She received a Brittany puppy from her husband of 33 years, Dr. Kailas Rao. Montana’s Buffy of the Bay (Buffy) came into the Raos’ lives and they both fell in love with the breed. Becky showed Buffy in the show ring, in obedience and in the field, where they earned AKC titles in each. She later acquired Marsport’s Devilish Devon, who also earned titles in hunting and obedience. 1998 was when Jordean Dream A Little Dream entered the scene. Purchased from Andrea (Jordan) Lane, an instant friendship emerged via email and phone calls. And speaking of dreaming, neither ever dreamed that they would someday team up to breed, train and show champion Brittanys.

A lovely CPO Appaloosa gelding, My Red Ryder, was purchased in 1998, and Becky began riding again after 28 years of being without a horse. Soon after, Buzz Bomber, a loud-colored Appaloosa was purchased and the Raos realized that they needed a place of their own. It was during this period of time that Becky met and became friends with Susan DeChant who eventually became the equine manager at Rao Farms.

In 2001, the 256 acres that evolved into Rao Farms was found and bought. It took a few years to construct, but the state of the art equine facility and kennel are fully operational. Becky’s life-long dream of owning an Appaloosa horse farm and a Brittany dog kennel has finally come true. Rao Farms is a testament to Becky’s dedication to the philosophy that champions beget champions.
